As digital
communication
takes precedence in today's professional world,
Chrome
extensions
like Meet Mute have emerged to streamline
online video
chats. This
Chrome extension
offers a unique feature for
online communication
, allowing users to mute and unmute their Google Meet tabs effortlessly. However, with an aggregate rating of 3.0 out of 5, it seems the extension has some room for improvement. Let's delve into user reviews to understand the strengths and shortcomings of this
video
chat tool.
User Reviews: The Good and The Bad
Many users have found value in Meet Mute, complimenting its functionality and ease of use. A Google user described it as a "lifesaver" and a "game changer", appreciating the ability to control muting from any Chrome tab or window. This user also praised the extension's keyboard shortcuts, which streamline the muting process. Dexter De Leon and Peter Mescalchin echoed these sentiments, stating that the extension works as intended and stands out amongst competitors.
Yet, the extension has also received its share of criticism. Users like Alejandro Boyadjian, Jairo Salguero, and Shonique Murray reported operational issues, describing the extension as non-functional or inconsistent. For instance, the extension is said to automatically unmute itself once any
sound
is detected by the microphone. Some users also reported that the mute/unmute status displayed by the extension's icon doesn't match their meeting's actual status. These technical issues contribute to the extension's subpar aggregate rating.
Meet Mute: Falling Short of Expectations?
Based on these reviews, it appears that Meet Mute's primary strength lies in its concept of simplifying the muting process in Google Meet. Users appreciate the global keyboard shortcuts and the visible mute status indication. However, the extension's low rating can be attributed to its technical inconsistencies.
Interestingly, users have shown a willingness to continue using the extension, highlighting its potential value in the realm of online video communication. For instance, Tobias Pryning, despite experiencing technical issues, expressed a desire for the extension to work due to its convenient global keyboard shortcut feature. This shows that with some improvements, Meet Mute could become a valuable tool for Chrome users.
In conclusion, while Meet Mute appears to have a practical application in the world of online video chats, its technical issues prevent it from reaching its full potential. Users are advised to approach this extension with caution, keeping in mind its current shortcomings.

It's a nice extension but it will be removed soon and the original developer no longer maintains it. So i have upgraded it based on this extension: https://chromewebstore.google.com/detail/mute-tab/djnlklfindboblpikpeaedoamfhgklfd
Not working correctly with Version 121.0.6167.185 (Official Build) (64-bit) Verified: Site access is "automatically allow access on the following sites: https://meet.google.com/*" If I mute from inside the meet window, the icon updates to match. If I click the icon, it changes, but does not mute the meet window. I then cannot reset the top icon without muting and unmuting inside the meet window. This also causes the global shortcut key to fail. https://github.com/mattsimonis/meet-mute/issues/15 may be relevant, but has not been actioned
This is a lifesaver! It's a game changer to be able to mute/unmute yourself from any Chrome tab or window or even application. To set keyboard shortcuts, make sure you read the instructions (right click the icon > manage extensions > click the three lines icon on the top left corner > keyboard shortcuts). Thanks for making this extension!
Just wanted to add that this extension works exactly as stated with latest Chrome (at time of writing) [89.0.4389.90]. No un-required bells and whistles - one of those "essential apps" for me.
This does not work at all. A complete waste of time and space. The button says its muted but I can still all the tabs at the same time.
Sadly does not work. As others have said the indication of the extension icon is not the same as what is in the meeting. (it does not mute the meeting, but it looks like it does). Really want this to work though, because of the global keyboard shortcut option! Am using google chrome version 87.0.4280.88
This works pretty well. A nice imporovement would be to show some kind of popup when you're muting or unmuting from a global setting. It's hard to notice the icon if you're in another application.
It doesn´t mute.
Works great. Only problem is I have to use the button while the call is focused the first time so that the extension "connects" to the call. Afterwards it works well.
it is good
Not working!
This really works :D but, do you could please, make a extension that can mute one of the persons who are in the meet? I really need this T-T thanks!
